..with vinegar and brown paper

OK maybe not the vinegar, but I'm sure there must be a technique somewhere that uses it :)
Have been messing around with brown paper again. Only samples to show here. I never feel the need to make a finished item with every surface I create. I'm sure that one day they will all be used.
This one is brown paper that has been painted with acrylic paints, then scrumpled up, flattened out again and painted Bondaweb, also painted with acrylics, was ironed on top.
Gold Fibre in-Form Foil was bonded on to the surface with a layer of blue organza ironed over the top.
This is the finished sheet of paper fabric.
And this is the same sheet which I held in the window before photographing.
This is a close up of the bottom right hand corner.
And these are just normal close up views.

A random pattern using a metallic thread was machined over the top.

The organza was then burnt back using a heat gun.

I have given this piece a layer of Golden Polymer Medium to make it more durable.

This is a piece that I had cut off before burning back the organza. I layered it on to black acrylic felt and run it through the embellisher.
I have been creating even more surfaces using brown paper but they are waiting to be photographed, so more of them another time.

Hi
More versatile than you think is brown paper. I made a bag with brown paper as the base. never considered using the embelisher on it. A very different effect. Like it.

Your house must be bulging at the seams with all these samples you make.

They are so wonderful. I like just making papers and not worrying about an end use too. Sandy

So when you used the embellisher on the painted surface, did you do it from the back or the front or both? Did the paint gunk up the needles at all? They are all lovely as usual.

Hi Lynda, you're samples are beautiful. If you don't make a finished item how do you store them? Did you ever thought of making a book from them? In Holland we have a collector who sells this kind of books. Especiaaly if you see them all together they are such a nice series.

You done real good MIss--I love them Lynda you are so clever and I love seeing what you can do with the odds and sods from around the house.

My, my, so many wonderful samples. I too, am curious about the one you used the embellisher on. Was that punched from the back or the front?

Oh, they're so lovely!
I haven't tried the embellisher on painted paper yet...

Hi Lynda
I think you're wasted on this blog, although much loved of course LOL. Have you thought of offering a course at your local art college? When I was at college we had a day where someone came in to teach us paper techniques and whilst I thought they were pretty clever at the time, they were definitely not a patch on what you so generously share with us here.
BTW there is a technique using vinegar I'll post it up tonight.
I'll be interested in your answer to Ruth as I've been a bit chicken with my embellisher!
I also agree with Jacqueline, a book would be great!

Saw these wonderful samples, and immediately though you really should write a book. I see I'm not the only one!

Yep - I agree with everyone else - you are incredible and so are your samples. I too want to know if you embellished from the back or the front? Whatever, it was a great result!

Wow, what fabulous papers, I love them all. I soak scrunched up brown paper in vinegar and water then paint it after it's dry. This ends up with a leathery texture.

yum yum, these are lovely hon, well done. what I really love is that you are never afraid to go another step further, another layer, and another, and then deconstruct and then add another layer. brilliant.
