Experiments with Foils

There is a new tute available on the Fibre in-Form website.
Visit the Fibre in-Formation page to show you how to make this Metallic Star, created by Carol (Textile Tales) which you can also see on her blog.

These are some of the experiments I was doing over the weekend, along with Carol using the foils available from Fibre in-Form.

1. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Windsor and Newton Concentrated Water Colour in Olive Green. 2. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Dr Ph Martins Concentrated Water Colour in Ice Green.
3. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Stewart Gill Metallica Rich Bronze paint then Dr Ph Martin Concentrated Water Colour in Ice Green.
4. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Stewart Gill Alchemy in Cobalt Paint.5. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Pelikan Turquoise Fountain Pen Ink.
6. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Windsor and Newton Drawing Ink in White.
7.Iron on Vilene, Copper Foil, Pelikan Turquoise Fountain Pen Ink.
8. Iron on Vilene, Copper Foil, Ziller Calligraphy Ink in Cardinal Red.
9.Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Stewart Gill Byzantia Excelsius Paint.
10. Pelmet Vilene, Copper Foil, Indigo Navy Procion Dye.
11. Iron on Vilene, Copper Foil, Indigo Navy and Intense Red Procion Dye.
12. Pelmet Vilene, Gold Foil, Intense Red Procion Dye.
13. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Indigo Navy Procion Dye.
14. Iron on Vilene, Gold Foil, Intense Red and Indigo Navy Procion dye.
Now I just need to decide how to use some of these sumptous surfaces. :)

Yikes Lynda--did you have time to eat and sleep-My favourite is number 10 but I love them all--especially the Steward Gill ones.

From #10 on they already look like landscapes - trees and water.

Do I know what the states' version of "iron on Vilene" is?

They're all beautiful.

I can't keep up with all this gorgeousness!!! The last one would make a beautiful book cover but that is just in my limited imagination, I look forward to seeing what you do with them.

Don't feel you need to use them all...other artists would rush to volunteer to help out!!!

Fantastic pieces! Love them all. Now did you apply the foil before or after the paints?

Hi Lynda, these pieces are lovely. This foil is really a tingle. I must admit it works a lot better than the foil I had bought in the Netherlands. You really tease me with this, now I have to order MORE...Thanks for sharing you're experience. (this saves time :-)

My favorites are #10 and #11. But they are all beautiful. Is vilene like pellon, do you know?

Your blog is always such a treat and I always want to follow along with your processes, which you always describe and illustrate so well. You are very generous with your techniques and, as I will soon have more time for experimentation, I'm going to be back here for inspiration. Thank you.

I do LOVE your blog Lynda!! They are all fantastic - the last one reminding me of a bushfire - or if you don't like that description, then maybe a fiery sunset amongst many trees.

You must have such fun together with all the things to play with.
Love it all.

Thought I'd give this a try - had some fusible pelmet vilene quite wide I had bought from a quilt shop -cannot remember why. When I ironed off the foil it just stuck to the little dots of glue- my one is fusible both sides - is this the same as yours? Have ironed off more foil and painted but get a completely different effect to you - Help. By the way love yours, which is why I gave it a go.!!

Wow! You have been busy and meticulous in noting down all the details of what you did. These are all beautiful - I really like 4,5 and 14 but they're all gorgeous.

A great series. Wonderful colours!

These are fabulous effects.I particularly like 11 as it looks very rust inspired. Would the same effect work on a sheer? so that you could burn into it, or maybe the vilene would burn. Does the foil burn with a soldering iron?

Foiled again....*L*.....I now have all these different fabrics and other bases covered with various foils. The fun part really begins tomorrow then, I bet. Getting out all my paints and stuff.

I had a terrible beginning. I had pulled out what I thot was Pellon Fusible; turned out it was fusible INTERFACING!....geez....Only when it wouldn't let me get to the fusible part, did I realize.

Wow (I think I always start my comment son your blog with that expression - I wonder why?!) I love them all and I can't believe you got that much done in one weekend (and kept track of them all!) Look forward to seeing what you do with them.
