Some really wonderful work was produced as always:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ivacEIUVX4Q/VNdcLOgK_ZI/AAAAAAAAJRw/vX5cLYJRSPE/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ivacEIUVX4Q/VNdcLOgK_ZI/AAAAAAAAJRw/vX5cLYJRSPE/s1600/1.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>

Isn't this surface fabulous?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These photos are a study in concentration:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This, in the centre, is my eldest student to date. Rosemary aged 92!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NTZx8lwcKTI/VNdcMclH_JI/AAAAAAAAJSU/oDGx1JHfEYw/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NTZx8lwcKTI/VNdcMclH_JI/AAAAAAAAJSU/oDGx1JHfEYw/s1600/5.jpg" height="293" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
What an amazing lady. So talented. She bought a book along to show me where she has put photographs of all the different arts and crafts she has participated in over the years: china painting, tapestry, silk painting, book making, watercolour painting....the list is endless. Her artwork is superb and so detailed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
She was once head seamstress at Selfridges. She made both her daughters wedding dresses and the cakes too. Rosemary now scans her watercolour paintings into the computer, prints out copies which she mounts on cards and sells them for charity. I feel privileged to have had Rosemary on my workshop.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I took along my heat press and we all had a good play with that, everyone was very impressed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But the simple thing that really blew them all away was one of these:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N6vEp4swdpY/VNdewrLpcHI/AAAAAAAAJS0/WiAQDSCA87c/s1600/paperpunch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N6vEp4swdpY/VNdewrLpcHI/AAAAAAAAJS0/WiAQDSCA87c/s1600/paperpunch.jpg" height="69" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A Japanese paper punch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think everyone will have one of these next time I see them. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
All in all a really good day, nice hall, great company and had a laugh, what more could you ask?</div>

Had a great weekend teaching 'Creative Surfaces' at Missenden Abbey. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We only had a small class this time, and then smaller because of illness, but it was decided to run it anyway. My fault. I call my workshops 'Creative Surfaces' then when it comes to it I can do whichever techniques I want to or alter everything at the last minute and nobody realises.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Consequently, when prospective students see 'Creative Surfaces' they think they have already done this workshop.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So the Summer School in August is also called 'Creative Surfaces' but even if you have been before I promise you will be learning new techniques to create surfaces and in future my workshops at Missenden Abbey will have specific titles and descriptions just so there is no confusion.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So back to this weekend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We made a folded pocket book, a scrunched scrim canvas, postcards and a free-hanging piece, played with the molding paste and tissue paper technique and had a bit of a go at fragments before we run out of time. Everyone was exhausted, but as Claire said - 'a happy exhausted'.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love reading <a href="http://hot-textiles.blogspot.co.uk/">Kim's Blog/Facebook</a> page and looking at the photos she takes of her students work and always promise myself I will do the same. I always take the camera along - and then forget to use it! So this year I am going to make a determined effort to record <u>all</u> the workshops I teach.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here we go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Everyone hard at work:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I wish I had managed to take some photos of the finished folded pocket books as they were all stunning. You would not believe the difference with the before and after photographs. But we had to unfold them straight away in case they were still a bit tacky.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Didn't they do well?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Thank you ladies for a lovely weekend. </div>
Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-23438315445305922832015-01-14T13:09:00.000+00:002015-01-14T13:09:17.529+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;">
Following a blip, hiccup, call it what you like, middle of last year I threw loads (which I bitterly regret) and gave the rest away (which I'm quite happy with) of my samples and finished pieces only to have a complete turnaround and decide that I do need them after all.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I have been putting off the inevitable of re-making lots of them, thinking it would be so boring, time consuming, soul destroying.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But it hasn't been. Not at all. I am really enjoying myself discovering these techniques all over again. Even to the point where I am beginning to get that 'why don't I / what if....' feeling.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the last couple of days I have been making tissue paper folded pocket books. These are some of the pieces ready to finish. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This one is mustard and Indigo navy procion dye.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iJTIYx2SAvw/VLZlfkAIJuI/AAAAAAAAJOQ/SeC931RcX00/s1600/C.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iJTIYx2SAvw/VLZlfkAIJuI/AAAAAAAAJOQ/SeC931RcX00/s1600/C.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
This one is Indigo navy procion dye one side and walnut ink sprinkled with sea salt the other.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s4LLvaiN-40/VLZlfi_734I/AAAAAAAAJOU/7T7K8puPH7c/s1600/D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s4LLvaiN-40/VLZlfi_734I/AAAAAAAAJOU/7T7K8puPH7c/s1600/D.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
And this one is burnt sienna and turquoise silk paint sprinkled with sea salt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mlr3lZrs-ZQ/VLZlf3jCpqI/AAAAAAAAJO0/XyFPZSEE8A0/s1600/E.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Mlr3lZrs-ZQ/VLZlf3jCpqI/AAAAAAAAJO0/XyFPZSEE8A0/s1600/E.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As they are they don't really look anything special but once folded always look completely different.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They have all been coated with Acrylic Wax and just need stitching around the edges, folding and embellishments added to the front.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have also been finding time to play with my heat press. It works a dream with disperse dyes, so much quicker, easier and a lot better finish than an iron.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This print has been transferred on to Evolon that had previously been rusted - as you can see from the top half of the photograph.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1rmKMaeTTg/VLZlgtHefWI/AAAAAAAAJOk/2TLgGcEX2MU/s1600/G.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q1rmKMaeTTg/VLZlgtHefWI/AAAAAAAAJOk/2TLgGcEX2MU/s1600/G.jpg" height="320" width="271" /></a></div>
And this is the second transfer on to white poly velvet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CYSO-dzJL8Q/VLZlg-XmfzI/AAAAAAAAJOg/yInfHsCNSEE/s1600/H.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CYSO-dzJL8Q/VLZlg-XmfzI/AAAAAAAAJOg/yInfHsCNSEE/s1600/H.jpg" height="219" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I can get at least four really good transfers from one print before it starts to fade - and it only takes 25 seconds to do this. I'm amazed!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have also been spending far too much time on the internet - the holiday pages. We have a big decision to make for 2016. Because DH has worked for the same company for over 45 years they have decided to reward him with a holiday of a lifetime for the two of us.(I sometimes feel that I have worked for the company that long too!!!)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Is it going to be a month in Australia, a month in the USA, maybe a tour around the major European cities or...?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My daughter has suggested that we get booked into a really posh hotel in this country for two weeks during the summer holidays then all the children and grandchildren can come too. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hmmm, maybe not...</div>

.....to everyone that knows me or is reading this.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There was one really big downside to 2014 and a couple of minor ones but if 2015 is half as good as the rest of the year was, it will be a brilliant one!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do hope that everyone has a really good one too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On Monday a few of us gathered at ArtVanGo for a 'playday'.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We all played with lots of different bits and learned a lot from each other plus had a good chat with mulled wine and sausage rolls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I took along my latest toy - a heat press. How have I managed without one for this long???</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Damn,damn,damn.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just about to load the photos only to find I can't!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I took a load of photos, some really good ones - especially the one of Viv cuddling the empty mulled wine bottles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But they also showed some of the work we were doing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I loaded them on to my PC which automatically deletes them from my camera. And at this moment in time my PC is going back to factory settings as I have a virus on there - 'start123' I think it's called. It is a virus that supposedly makes note of all your web browsing but who's to say that it doesn't capture your passwords and cc details etc. Goodness knows where I picked it up from and I have tried every which way to get rid of it, lots of tips online, but it just won't go so formatting was the only option left.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And of course I never saved the photos in a file, thinking they would be quite safe in the Photoshop Organiser, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh well, Will have to show you later some of the fantastic effects we got from the heat press.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the meantime, a blog is no good without a photo so I will just leave you with one of the heat press :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_EMmbZXoaoc/VDfx86Qa3KI/AAAAAAAAJMw/hRWirF2hkgQ/s1600/P1020253.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_EMmbZXoaoc/VDfx86Qa3KI/AAAAAAAAJMw/hRWirF2hkgQ/s1600/P1020253.jpg" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
And guess what?<br />
They have been named after me. How wicked is that.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8Ttd5ZTmpk/VDfx9P444cI/AAAAAAAAJM4/_Xs1VPvFPE4/s1600/P1020256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8Ttd5ZTmpk/VDfx9P444cI/AAAAAAAAJM4/_Xs1VPvFPE4/s1600/P1020256.jpg" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They are from<a href="http://www.lange-nadel.de/?lang=en"> Anne Lange</a> who also has other threads named after different textile artists: Sandra Meech, Richard Box, Marilyn Pipe, Janet Edmonds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I'm not totally unique but what an honour to have threads named after you. :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year is the first year I have been unable to go to Ally Pally since the very first show. I have all the programmes from the shows (how sad is that) but will be missing the one for 2014. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back, legs and knees have been really bad,finding it very difficult to walk and I just couldn't face it. Finally went to the doctor, thought it was either Sciatica or hips but he pulled my legs about for some time and decided it is Lumbago - what an old fashioned word that is. Anyway, he has given me some really strong painkillers and advised me to walk more to loosen up the muscles. They are beginning to work already so maybe, just maybe I might make it on Sunday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Trying to convince husband that I really do need to get me a puppy very soon to encourage me to walk more and of course it really needs to be two Labs so that they can keep each other company. Still got a way to go with that one!</div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Why not come along, have a coffee and a chat and see what we are up to?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And, of course, a bit of retail therapy always goes down well. :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Also a good opportunity to catch the Spectrum exhibition mentored by Gina Ferrari which is on until 5th April.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Hope to see you there.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xtMOALSMnJU/Uv4cLl1H5XI/AAAAAAAAJJs/MHz9bWuwhg4/s1600/pazzles1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xtMOALSMnJU/Uv4cLl1H5XI/AAAAAAAAJJs/MHz9bWuwhg4/s1600/pazzles1.jpg" height="234" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A Pazzles Inspiration Creative Electronic Die Cutter.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 107%;">It<span style="background: white;"> connects to your computer, similar to a printer, but
instead of printing, the Inspiration uses a small blade to die cut your designs.
You can cut pre-loaded designs or more
importantly can create your own. The Inspiration is capable of cutting much
more than just paper and cards, from light plastics to chipboard, fabric to
rubber stamp material, thin metal to fun foam. You can even draw, engrave, emboss, distress and pierce </span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 107%;">using the added tools.</span>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 107%;">And
because the Inspiration is computerized, you never have to buy expensive
cartridges!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Read more about it here: <a href="http://pazzles.com/">Pazzles</a></span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Apart from the USB lead, transformer and original box, the machine also comes with the following which are all new and unused:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Cutting Mat 12x12"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Embossing Mat 12x12"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">CD and Instruction Booklet</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Extra CD with bags and boxes</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Spare Blade</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Emboss Tool</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Engraving Tool</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Distressing Tool</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have used it for cutting shapes from Pelmet Vilene and Lutradur. And also from other surfaces that I have already prepared i.e. metallic effect surfaces (which is foil bonded to Pelmet Vilene and tissue glued on the surface - see Fabulous Surfaces).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here are a couple of samples of simple shapes that have been cut.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-re6mCV_Lvdo/Uv4jq5oUnoI/AAAAAAAAJKg/s4tXAp6Zpak/s1600/59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-re6mCV_Lvdo/Uv4jq5oUnoI/AAAAAAAAJKg/s4tXAp6Zpak/s1600/59.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5CA_oguua74/Uv4jq1AGRdI/AAAAAAAAJKk/8JwFBo6SHM4/s1600/3+%25284%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5CA_oguua74/Uv4jq1AGRdI/AAAAAAAAJKk/8JwFBo6SHM4/s1600/3+%25284%2529.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think that the only advantage the Brother ScanNCut has over this machine is the fact that it is a stand alone machine whereas the Pazzles Inspiration needs a PC/Laptop etc. to run.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's a great machine with lots of potential - and I do have a <u>very, very good</u> reason for parting with it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All spare parts are readily available from Amazon and Ebay.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can also buy a piercing tool, a pen tool and a 12 x 24" cutting mat along with CD images with different shape templates .</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I would like £250 or the nearest sensible offer.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Collection or meeting at some point to hand the machine over would be preferable to posting.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

Another busy week. This time I was in the West Midlands with a lovely group of ladies called 'Inspire'. They had chosen the metallic effect surfaces workshop.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are the ladies hard at work:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--xNdfS2Qvx8/Uve58O5b8NI/AAAAAAAAJHI/k9wm3mPMxaM/s1600/P1020174.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--xNdfS2Qvx8/Uve58O5b8NI/AAAAAAAAJHI/k9wm3mPMxaM/s1600/P1020174.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
And these were some of the wonderful samples that were created:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zZAw98d9TOA/Uve571_6c-I/AAAAAAAAJGs/oJu2g2CE4WE/s1600/P1020171.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zZAw98d9TOA/Uve571_6c-I/AAAAAAAAJGs/oJu2g2CE4WE/s1600/P1020171.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CHDkgETcnyE/Uve57r_pfdI/AAAAAAAAJGo/BhpQo7QEtrU/s1600/P1020170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CHDkgETcnyE/Uve57r_pfdI/AAAAAAAAJGo/BhpQo7QEtrU/s1600/P1020170.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The book covers were also made ready to take home to embellish further.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We then went on to play with Scrunched Scrim and Tyvek with Heat Transfer Foil.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is Judy with two of her samples. The photograph doesn't show them very well but they look amazing:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GblqXuo4X6E/Uve58frTnwI/AAAAAAAAJHA/ywv6SUXKem8/s1600/P1020177.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GblqXuo4X6E/Uve58frTnwI/AAAAAAAAJHA/ywv6SUXKem8/s1600/P1020177.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And another couple of samples. Not sure whose this one is:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YMEiFDN_yRY/Uve580OF0ZI/AAAAAAAAJHQ/TBfFcajwH9w/s1600/P1020178.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YMEiFDN_yRY/Uve580OF0ZI/AAAAAAAAJHQ/TBfFcajwH9w/s1600/P1020178.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
but this one is Francis:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z9THOOdre3g/Uve59Mt3ylI/AAAAAAAAJHU/vv59zurcI0g/s1600/P1020180.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z9THOOdre3g/Uve59Mt3ylI/AAAAAAAAJHU/vv59zurcI0g/s1600/P1020180.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You see, I am getting much better at remembering to take photos. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ended the week with a talk for Enfield Embroiderers Guild yesterday. I was aware that I knew one member of this guild, Jo, but was surprised at the amount of faces I recognised from shows and workshops.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My diary is fairly empty for this week so I intend to get down to working towards the exhibition that I have coming up with Pauline Verrinder at ArtVanGo in April and the exhibition with 'Connected' in Coventry Cathedral in August. I have one piece completed for Coventry so only have a few pieces left to go.....!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of ArtVanGo, it is their 25th anniversary this year and the workshop programme is amazing. They have lined up some really great tutors for this year: Kim Thittachai - Clare Bullock - Hilary Beattie - Angie Hughes - Gina Ferrari and loads more (including me!). The full programme is not yet on the website but take a look here: <a href="http://origin.library.constantcontact.com/download/get/file/1103876863020-144/2014+Full+Programme.pdf">ArtVanGo Workshop Programme</a> as I know that bookings are already being made.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just thinking, I will have to do some work next week or I will have nothing to blog about!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Love the idea of what Maggie Grey is going to be doing on her blog all next week. </div>

<br />
I had a full class of eight students, six of which were from a group called 'Wandering Threads'.<br />
<br />
This is Heather. I had already met Heather before at Plas Tan y Bwlch in Wales last year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sXOsDw8Lr-E/UuuypMhPTBI/AAAAAAAAJFM/jVcX_MeHB5o/s1600/Heather.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sXOsDw8Lr-E/UuuypMhPTBI/AAAAAAAAJFM/jVcX_MeHB5o/s1600/Heather.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>

This is Janette - the type of student you always hope for in a class. She gave us a really good laugh and was a good sport.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g5LPnWtfh64/UuuyqH0A9vI/AAAAAAAAJFg/52_rxRLIR1k/s1600/Janette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g5LPnWtfh64/UuuyqH0A9vI/AAAAAAAAJFg/52_rxRLIR1k/s1600/Janette.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
Alison, Chris and Janette again all working hard.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is another member of the same group, Jill - goodness knows what she was doing down there!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3RXtkaieSl4/UuuyqXw2YtI/AAAAAAAAJFo/XLEuRdlJo0M/s1600/Jill.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3RXtkaieSl4/UuuyqXw2YtI/AAAAAAAAJFo/XLEuRdlJo0M/s1600/Jill.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jan, on the right of the photo is the sixth member of the group. We also had Jane, in the centre and Bernadine who I didn't manage to get a photo of.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7iiTj-dn0ps/UuuyrhUoZwI/AAAAAAAAJGA/ePzmB8Cucpg/s1600/al+lthe+js.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7iiTj-dn0ps/UuuyrhUoZwI/AAAAAAAAJGA/ePzmB8Cucpg/s1600/al+lthe+js.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At least I remembered to take photos!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Its ALQS time again - number 8. Details are all <a href="http://anotherlittlequiltswap.blogspot.co.uk/">here</a>. The deadline is this Monday, 3rd February.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There are 45 names in the pool and so far 23 quilts have been posted. I already have several favourites from the ones that are pictured.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is my entry for this round. A lot of people have already guessed that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IL8qPPMZLu8/UuuyssBiLGI/AAAAAAAAJGQ/R0wviHFgx1E/s1600/hanging.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IL8qPPMZLu8/UuuyssBiLGI/AAAAAAAAJGQ/R0wviHFgx1E/s1600/hanging.jpg" height="305" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It hasn't been especially made for this round - that is allowed. Some of you reading this blog will have seen it before. All I have to do is put a back on it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is called 'Life's too short too dance with ugly men' - which is what the latin script translates to - and is 45cm square. The background is Cotton Duck machine stitched on to blanket. The Celtic motif is Pumice Gel stencilled on to Kunin Felt. Randomly stitched on to Pelmet Vilene then zapped before stitching to background. The wording has been printed on to dressmaking tissue paper using a laser printer and adhered to the background with Golden Polymer Medium just prior to adding colour. The whole piece has been given a layer of gesso before being coloured with Golden Fluid Acrylic paints in Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Transparent Red Iron Oxide and Paynes Grey.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And that's it for this week. 5 weeks, 5 blogs. I'm managing to keep it up at the moment. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This week it was the turn of the Bromley Embroiderers Guild for a talk, and a lovely bunch they were too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As ever, I wasn't that organised and everything was all over the place:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G6o1ng1GjdU/UtwKRdfKu6I/AAAAAAAAJDE/2apuPOW0yeU/s1600/P1020126.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G6o1ng1GjdU/UtwKRdfKu6I/AAAAAAAAJDE/2apuPOW0yeU/s1600/P1020126.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DUq3Tg-6juk/UtwKRM__CUI/AAAAAAAAJCs/IsaA3ISDzd8/s1600/P1020125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DUq3Tg-6juk/UtwKRM__CUI/AAAAAAAAJCs/IsaA3ISDzd8/s1600/P1020125.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I think they all enjoyed it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was quite a busy day for me as we did a 'detour' to ArtVanGo on the way to Bromley in Kent to collect a piece of work I had left to be framed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's a piece I have finished for the first exhibition of the group Connected that I am part of. The exhibition is at Coventry Cathedral from the 9th - 31st August 2014. All the pieces to be shown have been made in response to items in the cathedral itself and the grounds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are a couple of close ups of the piece I have had framed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NXi7aA9ewEE/UtwKR-l37xI/AAAAAAAAJDI/-DX9CgpTMa0/s1600/x2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NXi7aA9ewEE/UtwKR-l37xI/AAAAAAAAJDI/-DX9CgpTMa0/s1600/x2.jpg" height="115" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5cQLAhKI9p8/UtwKRiFDNEI/AAAAAAAAJDA/C68GMlV8TsE/s1600/x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5cQLAhKI9p8/UtwKRiFDNEI/AAAAAAAAJDA/C68GMlV8TsE/s1600/x.jpg" height="103" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The framing has been done by Val of <a href="http://www.kendal-framing.co.uk/">Kendals.</a> She has made a really good job of this, I'm very pleased. I've known Val for a while now as she is at <a href="http://www.artvango.co.uk/">ArtVanGo</a> every Saturday taking orders, so if you need something framed professionally then you know where to go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the way back from Bromley we did another detour, this time to Rusper in West Sussex as it is my granddaughter Lotties 6th birthday on Tuesday and she wanted us to have a 'birthday tea' with her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did my 'ladies that lunch' bit last week with a few of the members that could make it from <a href="http://www.fenedgetextiles.co.uk/">'Fen Edge Textiles'</a>:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We went to <a href="http://www.lahogue.co.uk/">La Hogue Farm Shop</a> in Chippenham, Cambridge which I can thoroughly recommend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6M8Xzd2AZbY/UtwKQh8uB1I/AAAAAAAAJCw/s33ig_JJEQk/s1600/P1020123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6M8Xzd2AZbY/UtwKQh8uB1I/AAAAAAAAJCw/s33ig_JJEQk/s1600/P1020123.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-etNX9nFHc8w/UtwKPyFLAbI/AAAAAAAAJCk/qYr6GuH4i6k/s1600/P1020121.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-etNX9nFHc8w/UtwKPyFLAbI/AAAAAAAAJCk/qYr6GuH4i6k/s1600/P1020121.jpg" height="238" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sheila looks a bit squiffy in this photo but she wasn't really - I think it was just the thought of the piece of gateau she was about to eat!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still sorting out photos, I should have posted these some time ago. They were sent to me by Lutterworth Embroiderers Guild that I taught a workshop to last June. All the students finished their 'Blades' and 'Quiltlets' and they were all put on display, I think, at their Regional Day, but I may be wrong as I have lost the original email. Apologies if I am.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JmfmT-IdS1o/UtwKPQafKJI/AAAAAAAAJCQ/MQkTVU2X-44/s1600/DSC06643_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JmfmT-IdS1o/UtwKPQafKJI/AAAAAAAAJCQ/MQkTVU2X-44/s1600/DSC06643_2.jpg" height="297" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WtsQH6Oi_HI/UtwKPxwNIUI/AAAAAAAAJCY/yVGvyEsEt3M/s1600/DSC06645_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WtsQH6Oi_HI/UtwKPxwNIUI/AAAAAAAAJCY/yVGvyEsEt3M/s1600/DSC06645_2.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And once again I can finish with the words - don't they look wonderful?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-29407487994305557982014-01-14T16:38:00.000+00:002014-01-14T16:38:13.124+00:00Number Three<div style="text-align: justify;">
I gave a talk to the Romford Embroiderers Guild last Saturday - and lo and behold I remembered to take some photos. I am going to try and do that with every event I go to this year so that I have a complete record. I always take the camera but nine times out of ten am too busy rushing around to get it out!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are a selection of the samples and finished pieces I take along with me to a talk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sj5AIwLYn_g/UtVjjvZUMZI/AAAAAAAAJBQ/96TGVLAOElU/s1600/P1020117_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sj5AIwLYn_g/UtVjjvZUMZI/AAAAAAAAJBQ/96TGVLAOElU/s400/P1020117_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CRwxwhVEy-U/UtVjkINCr-I/AAAAAAAAJBg/IctrlY-go-4/s1600/P1020118_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CRwxwhVEy-U/UtVjkINCr-I/AAAAAAAAJBg/IctrlY-go-4/s400/P1020118_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7907P1jfH0/UtVjiw2iweI/AAAAAAAAJBA/g_Zk3Wyec7Q/s1600/P1020115_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7907P1jfH0/UtVjiw2iweI/AAAAAAAAJBA/g_Zk3Wyec7Q/s400/P1020115_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the talk I usually give a very quick demonstration and then let the audience (?) come and have a go themselves. At the moment I am demonstrating the Lutradur and Xpandaprint technique which I love. These are some of the ladies of the EG having a go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tj63U6JO5VE/UtVjkVBXECI/AAAAAAAAJB0/dNhMQwb5bAY/s1600/P1020120_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tj63U6JO5VE/UtVjkVBXECI/AAAAAAAAJB0/dNhMQwb5bAY/s400/P1020120_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While I was downloading these photos I found some still on the card which I had taken at an ArtVanGo workshop last October. It was called 'Fragments to Artefacts' which will also be repeated April 10-11 this year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We made 'memory shrines/keepers':</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8e8Or468KzY/UtVjfJr6q1I/AAAAAAAAJAM/BbR0_fStUjA/s1600/P1020092_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8e8Or468KzY/UtVjfJr6q1I/AAAAAAAAJAM/BbR0_fStUjA/s400/P1020092_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XxkV97gwcUU/UtVjfIhhg8I/AAAAAAAAJAU/s31Bcrj-xrs/s1600/P1020093_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XxkV97gwcUU/UtVjfIhhg8I/AAAAAAAAJAU/s31Bcrj-xrs/s400/P1020093_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Postcards from fragments:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R23yF9Wob6U/UtVjfeDmC1I/AAAAAAAAJAk/AIhmT0Ds6SI/s1600/P1020094_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R23yF9Wob6U/UtVjfeDmC1I/AAAAAAAAJAk/AIhmT0Ds6SI/s400/P1020094_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
And a fabric covered canvas either to hang a sample inside like this one:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hQD6wA_2arQ/UtVjiD6u2WI/AAAAAAAAJA8/RjIsMdg6W-4/s1600/P1020104_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hQD6wA_2arQ/UtVjiD6u2WI/AAAAAAAAJA8/RjIsMdg6W-4/s400/P1020104_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Or to 'float' a sample on the surface like these:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D5NKd5q20vM/UtVjit1ZeSI/AAAAAAAAJBk/WvZ7AEhgbkc/s1600/P1020106_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D5NKd5q20vM/UtVjit1ZeSI/AAAAAAAAJBk/WvZ7AEhgbkc/s400/P1020106_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The pieces for the shrines were hung on an airing horse to dry after the first coat:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GDqS3sOlY6E/UtVjdqs1OKI/AAAAAAAAI_w/gj8qw4qzxh8/s1600/P1020075_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GDqS3sOlY6E/UtVjdqs1OKI/AAAAAAAAI_w/gj8qw4qzxh8/s400/P1020075_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KhSGqB41NY0/UtVjeAfHPNI/AAAAAAAAI_8/VtU3w51_zYk/s1600/P1020080_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KhSGqB41NY0/UtVjeAfHPNI/AAAAAAAAI_8/VtU3w51_zYk/s400/P1020080_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
And again after the colour had been added:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L2apCMnkud0/UtVjgdXPmEI/AAAAAAAAJAo/L6nBXtyzU10/s1600/P1020096_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L2apCMnkud0/UtVjgdXPmEI/AAAAAAAAJAo/L6nBXtyzU10/s400/P1020096_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m6Vq5wc5Z98/UtVjh_4PZ5I/AAAAAAAAJA0/Zw8hIfTxSXA/s1600/P1020097_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m6Vq5wc5Z98/UtVjh_4PZ5I/AAAAAAAAJA0/Zw8hIfTxSXA/s400/P1020097_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Don't they look wonderful?<br />

Had a wonderful day on yesterday at ArtVanGo. It was very,very busy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Great to see so many people. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
People came from all over the place despite the awful weather, from as far away as Sleaford and Kent. Thank you all for coming it was so lovely to see you all.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So many different ideas floating around too. The day went too fast. Looked at my watch when I arrived, 10 past 9, started to feel a bit peckish, thought it must be lunchtime soon and it was almost half past two!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Managed to take a couple of photos:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Many thanks go to Ann and Julia, a couple of friends from Fen Edge Textiles, for taking charge of the printing press and helping others to make prints.<br />
I didn't get chance to have a go myself on Saturday but at least I managed to get the hang of where to start (well at least I thought I had) and made a few at home today - mind you, I won't be winning any prizes with my efforts for some time yet. :)<br />
This is the first one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1GqOzj7Wkk/Usm4_BTCP2I/AAAAAAAAI-o/UY5ZHoliU_M/s1600/fishy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1GqOzj7Wkk/Usm4_BTCP2I/AAAAAAAAI-o/UY5ZHoliU_M/s320/fishy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And this was the second print from the same plate - a 'ghost print' ? Not sure if that is the term.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L0bC11d4iUo/Usm2O5p1FMI/AAAAAAAAI9w/V-ds3vFDLL8/s1600/fish+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L0bC11d4iUo/Usm2O5p1FMI/AAAAAAAAI9w/V-ds3vFDLL8/s320/fish+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And this one is the third print, to clean the plate off, on tissue paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tlS_25ClG8Y/Usm2RZv9OQI/AAAAAAAAI-Q/tEZfLftWxYY/s1600/tissue+paper1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tlS_25ClG8Y/Usm2RZv9OQI/AAAAAAAAI-Q/tEZfLftWxYY/s320/tissue+paper1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I have a very limited amount of supplies, inks, paper etc and printing plates - that's my excuse anyway. But I love doing it. Just need a lot more practise - and supplies!<br />
I love the way the plates look once they have been inked up.<br />
This is before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Ym1VtsiDy0/Usm2QnsG5hI/AAAAAAAAI-A/fErnjJZuKBQ/s1600/plate2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="142" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Ym1VtsiDy0/Usm2QnsG5hI/AAAAAAAAI-A/fErnjJZuKBQ/s320/plate2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And after:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bYFXCLE0RK4/Usm2QbtAgBI/AAAAAAAAI-I/l_C5MkUVpQo/s1600/plate+coloured.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bYFXCLE0RK4/Usm2QbtAgBI/AAAAAAAAI-I/l_C5MkUVpQo/s320/plate+coloured.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also used one of Ann's glue scribbles to print from. The one on paper didn't come out too well but the one on tissue paper was OK.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AIYG8_W37qw/Usm2PD8u7cI/AAAAAAAAI9o/PF4nX3iFURg/s1600/glue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AIYG8_W37qw/Usm2PD8u7cI/AAAAAAAAI9o/PF4nX3iFURg/s320/glue.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And now I am going to really annoy Carol McFee *lol*. It bugs her when people see shapes within shapes, (serves her right for having such a fab armchair!) but I couldn't help noticing that this bit looked like a very abstract rendition of 'mother and child'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cn7WvSjh9sM/Usm2QsiAdwI/AAAAAAAAI-E/QykQMPe_9bk/s1600/m%2526c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Cn7WvSjh9sM/Usm2QsiAdwI/AAAAAAAAI-E/QykQMPe_9bk/s320/m%2526c.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
So once I had finished playing and tidied up I got the book out again and realised that you lay the inked plate face up on the printing bed first then the damp paper. And what had I done? Paper first with the plate laid on top. Obviously makes a difference.<br />
<br />
Just can't leave this fish alone. This is a Thermofax print with Discharge Paste on black discharge velvet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nqa3dbkAFxI/Usm2N58sDmI/AAAAAAAAI9U/L_eYA5p3UDk/s1600/dischargepaste.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nqa3dbkAFxI/Usm2N58sDmI/AAAAAAAAI9U/L_eYA5p3UDk/s320/dischargepaste.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And still talking about the screens and following on from the last post, once I have zapped the Lutradur and Xpandaprint I then colour the pieces with all sorts of different colouring mediums.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With these next pieces I let the Xpandaprint dry thoroughly and then coloured the piece <u>before</u> heating. It makes a real difference to the finished colour. Then of course you get a different effect if you heat the piece while the colour is still damp rather than wait until it dries completely.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These pieces were coloured with Indigo Navy Procion dye on one side then flipped over straight away and coloured with walnut ink on the other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gG-2QsPZBGM/Usm2J1uTbKI/AAAAAAAAI8I/rwk6j5b1_9s/s1600/4+%25284%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gG-2QsPZBGM/Usm2J1uTbKI/AAAAAAAAI8I/rwk6j5b1_9s/s320/4+%25284%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_THF5aoRKo/Usm2KEgroSI/AAAAAAAAI8Q/o3VpYajKK64/s1600/IMG_0286.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_THF5aoRKo/Usm2KEgroSI/AAAAAAAAI8Q/o3VpYajKK64/s320/IMG_0286.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is just the procion dye and it was zapped before the dye had dried out completely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qPKKDz-R7IM/Usm2Lv04wsI/AAAAAAAAI8k/FY0ImcpdGPY/s1600/MMM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qPKKDz-R7IM/Usm2Lv04wsI/AAAAAAAAI8k/FY0ImcpdGPY/s320/MMM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I print with Xpandaprint on to Lutradur I sometimes place a kitchen towel underneath before printing as the paste tends to go right through the fabric and this gives you another surface to work on. But I made the mistake of leaving the Xpandaprint to dry on this piece while it was still laying on the kitchen towel with the result that it stuck together - fast. I coloured it with Procion and Walnut Ink as before, left it dry and when I zapped it I let the edges of the kitchen towel singe with the heat.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Love the result.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lmVU__ac6Yk/Usm2MhZuvpI/AAAAAAAAI88/0TAmhgMCIo0/s1600/VVV.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lmVU__ac6Yk/Usm2MhZuvpI/AAAAAAAAI88/0TAmhgMCIo0/s320/VVV.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Not sure how I would use it, but what the heck, just think it looks good as a fragment.Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-22226812348754932072013-12-31T14:05:00.000+00:002013-12-31T14:05:19.754+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>Saturday January 4th 2014</u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The main reason for this post is to let you know that this Saturday, January 4th, some friends and I will be at the ArtVanGo studios playing with collagraphs on a Major-George Printing Press, a Lino Press, Big Shot and my newest Thermofax machine - an A3 one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And why? Because apart from the Thermofax the other things haven't been used as yet and I want someone to give me a kick start and in some cases, show me how to use them properly.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We'll be there from when the shop opens at 9.30 and it would be great if you also wanted to come along even if it's only for ten minutes or a couple of hours. You can watch what is going on, join in the chat and you would be more than welcome to have a go if you feel inclined. And then of course there is the shop to browse in - need I say more. What could be better on a cold, wet and windy Saturday? Do hope to see you there.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I went to Harrogate again this year and was on the Artists in Action stand for two days then demonstrating on the ArtVanGo for the other two. It was, as usual, brilliant. I was demonstrating my most favourite technique of all times. I have been doing this for some time and still never tire of it. I love it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's a technique from 'Exploring Creative Surfaces' where I use Xpandaprint through a Thermofax Screen on to Spunbond (Lutradur/FibreDK). Just lately I have been using images of fish and bird skeletons.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was my space on day one at Artists in Action:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SaQRoBfrxU/UsLD_l7Dt8I/AAAAAAAAI5I/1hlOsOQsGV8/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SaQRoBfrxU/UsLD_l7Dt8I/AAAAAAAAI5I/1hlOsOQsGV8/s320/6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And during the course of the two days it filled up like this with the pieces I was producing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vBZ3TQz_Uac/UsLECNme2fI/AAAAAAAAI5Q/Cm5gapAlHtk/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vBZ3TQz_Uac/UsLECNme2fI/AAAAAAAAI5Q/Cm5gapAlHtk/s320/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I0nyMSnDeaY/UsLED27APkI/AAAAAAAAI5Y/uQ3ryJBg5D8/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I0nyMSnDeaY/UsLED27APkI/AAAAAAAAI5Y/uQ3ryJBg5D8/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O_ajqT0KjFs/UsLEF0f4eLI/AAAAAAAAI5g/FCg73TW5ReU/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O_ajqT0KjFs/UsLEF0f4eLI/AAAAAAAAI5g/FCg73TW5ReU/s320/5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ohw9yaN3R-Q/UsLEH8EWgZI/AAAAAAAAI5o/4pv0g4KoyRo/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ohw9yaN3R-Q/UsLEH8EWgZI/AAAAAAAAI5o/4pv0g4KoyRo/s320/7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The process starts off like this with Xpandaprint pushed through the Thermofax screen:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6w9pl_uTNAU/UsLFENjdxGI/AAAAAAAAI50/BGpMhp4_V6k/s1600/fish2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6w9pl_uTNAU/UsLFENjdxGI/AAAAAAAAI50/BGpMhp4_V6k/s320/fish2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I then heat it with the heat tool, to expand the Xpandaprint and melt back the Spunbond.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-toF60dtzyw0/UsLFHzSdspI/AAAAAAAAI58/ANiprpaQtNw/s1600/fish4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-toF60dtzyw0/UsLFHzSdspI/AAAAAAAAI58/ANiprpaQtNw/s320/fish4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And this is what you are left with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-70BSFita3-s/UsLFH-OphCI/AAAAAAAAI6A/QdQdlqIxRZI/s1600/fish5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="159" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-70BSFita3-s/UsLFH-OphCI/AAAAAAAAI6A/QdQdlqIxRZI/s320/fish5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This one has been coloured in my usual colours - think I prefer the white version.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ntG8BbDcxzM/UsLFKJS1_5I/AAAAAAAAI6M/cchhe0LlHrU/s1600/fish3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ntG8BbDcxzM/UsLFKJS1_5I/AAAAAAAAI6M/cchhe0LlHrU/s320/fish3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you use a Thermofax Screen for different mediums it needs to be washed immediately after use or the medium, especially Xpandaprint, will dry on the screen, blocking the holes and ruining the design. Instead of just putting it straight into a tray of water I have been laying it on different surfaces to get rid of the excess Xpandaprint before washing. This one is on water colour paper. I have heated the paste with a heat gun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BluWYWMgC3o/UsLFMZTCMYI/AAAAAAAAI6U/st1SkFFi7GY/s1600/onpaper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="169" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BluWYWMgC3o/UsLFMZTCMYI/AAAAAAAAI6U/st1SkFFi7GY/s320/onpaper.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And have been experimenting with different finishes on top of the Xpandaprinted design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xbx7EQ0RKOM/UsLG7sdbvQI/AAAAAAAAI60/AgJBJLP5gsY/s1600/wash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xbx7EQ0RKOM/UsLG7sdbvQI/AAAAAAAAI60/AgJBJLP5gsY/s320/wash.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Wash of Paynes Grey Fluid Acrylic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rx84wUxnKAg/UsLG9ZL_ogI/AAAAAAAAI68/wTpGWACbZLo/s1600/bird.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rx84wUxnKAg/UsLG9ZL_ogI/AAAAAAAAI68/wTpGWACbZLo/s320/bird.jpg" width="253" /></a></div>
Rubbed over with black Markal Paintstik.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PQdL5Gpwwm4/UsLHAS1m0tI/AAAAAAAAI7E/HsuDkUwSpJk/s1600/john+lennon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PQdL5Gpwwm4/UsLHAS1m0tI/AAAAAAAAI7E/HsuDkUwSpJk/s320/john+lennon.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
Coloured with Procion Dye Indigo Navy on the back and Walnut Ink on the front then sprinkled with sea salt. It's the John Lennon negative in case you didn't realise. :)<br />
<br />
Have also been playing with the screens themselves.<br />
This one is a clear Markal Paintstik rubbed directly through the screen and then covered with Quink Ink.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FxQgYbjzAyY/UsLG0_ronMI/AAAAAAAAI6k/PPXgWY5g-LA/s1600/sketchbook2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="169" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FxQgYbjzAyY/UsLG0_ronMI/AAAAAAAAI6k/PPXgWY5g-LA/s320/sketchbook2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And this one is a black Caran D'Ache water soluble crayon rubbed through the screen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OrkACqKwt-A/UsLG3SpfdPI/AAAAAAAAI6s/4NrbpANDODY/s1600/sketchbook1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OrkACqKwt-A/UsLG3SpfdPI/AAAAAAAAI6s/4NrbpANDODY/s320/sketchbook1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Have you noticed the sketch pad? Isn't it fabulous? It's Khadi paper and is about 50 x 20 cms. I treated myself to two of them. (From ArtVanGo of course)<br />
I also printed this Rhino on to Lutradur.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9C73Uz3p64c/UsLJL4oUM1I/AAAAAAAAI7s/foMhcnbim7s/s1600/rhino2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9C73Uz3p64c/UsLJL4oUM1I/AAAAAAAAI7s/foMhcnbim7s/s320/rhino2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And used the excess on water colour paper and gave it a wash with Brusho powders.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6Jg26c6A2YU/UsLJLVx9IuI/AAAAAAAAI7k/xQC0HFUjX1M/s1600/rhino.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6Jg26c6A2YU/UsLJLVx9IuI/AAAAAAAAI7k/xQC0HFUjX1M/s320/rhino.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I have also used some of my finished pieces to make printing plates with to play with on Saturday. Will show next time how they turned out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="text-align: justify;">It's been almost three months since I last posted and I really miss blogging (how many times have I said that?).I posted a grand total of 7 blogs in 2013 as opposed to 106 when I first started in 2007! For 2014 I am going to try and make sure I blog at least once a week. Let's see how long I can keep it up for!</span><br />

The <a href="http://www.ichfevents.co.uk/" target="_blank">ICHF</a> show 'Stitch, Sew & Hobbycrafts' at Westpoint, Exeter last week was brilliant. Really, really busy and such a lovely crowd too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.wendydolan.co.uk/" target="_blank">Wendy Dolan</a> was on the stand opposite me. Not sure if she was there during the day though as there was always such a crowd around her stand I just couldn't see her!!! :) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And I know <a href="http://www.kimthittichai.com/" target="_blank">Kim Thittichai</a> was in the same boat further along. It was manic at times.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Managed to remember to take a photo of the stand early one morning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-437Nx4K1Xgs/UlFsqkPN6YI/AAAAAAAAI24/-Rn-OIy0NWc/s1600/IMG_0440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-437Nx4K1Xgs/UlFsqkPN6YI/AAAAAAAAI24/-Rn-OIy0NWc/s320/IMG_0440.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do hope I get the opportunity to be there again next year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I shall be at Ally Pally demonstrating on the <a href="http://www.artvango.co.uk/" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a> stand on Thursday and Friday if you want to come along and say hello. I shall also be there Saturday as a visitor and possibly helping out on Sunday, but not sure yet. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In case you didn't know, Ally Pally will be open until 7 pm on the Thursday evening and I believe that several people have got things going on such as <a href="http://textilestudygroup.co.uk/members/ruth-issett/" target="_blank">Ruth Issett</a> and<a href="http://www.bobbybritnell.co.uk/" target="_blank"> Bobby Britnell</a> who will have a joint book launch in the evening. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also wanted to let you know, in case you haven't seen the workshop programme yet, that I shall be at <a href="http://www.artvango.co.uk/" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a> on Tuesday Ocober 22nd and Wednesday October 23rd teaching a workshop 'Fragments to Artefacts' if you are interested. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Will also be there on Saturday October 26th with the Thermofax machine if you wanted to come along and have a screen burned. All you need is a black and white image, drawn, copied or printed, to the size of the screen you want and we will do the rest.</div>
<br />
One lady at the show, after studying my 'WW1 Shrine' and the 'Geralds Game' piece asked if I had managed to get over my obsession with skulls.<br />
This book arrived in the post on Monday:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1jF5pKa6L2Y/UlFsqzj8zuI/AAAAAAAAI3I/DGyFZtMMrTk/s1600/51mg6RdiYgL._.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1jF5pKa6L2Y/UlFsqzj8zuI/AAAAAAAAI3I/DGyFZtMMrTk/s320/51mg6RdiYgL._.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>
And this is a taste of what is inside:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CAmvW_WQXZo/UlFsq4N73zI/AAAAAAAAI3M/HmKIQBJjcnA/s1600/St.-Valerius.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CAmvW_WQXZo/UlFsq4N73zI/AAAAAAAAI3M/HmKIQBJjcnA/s320/St.-Valerius.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So I think the answer to that is a definite no. Although what I wouldn't mind getting hold of at the moment is a complete skeleton!Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-56855376255277217242013-05-25T19:36:00.000+01:002013-05-25T19:36:33.484+01:00Fen Edge TextilesWe had our <a href="http://www.fenedgetextiles.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fen Edge Textile</a> group meeting at Cottenham today and after the 'business' part of the meeting Pauline showed us the basics of 'Wired Petals, Pods and Leaves'. I always thought that just appearing on YouTube means you were 'going viral', but what it actually means is becoming popular in a very short amount of time.<br />
Not quite sure this will ever do that. <br />

Before I bang on about how brilliant this show was I need to make an announcement to the students who attended my workshops on Saturday and Sunday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have given you the wrong CD. Well, not exactly the wrong CD but only half of the right CD. If you would like to email me at <a href="mailto:purplemissus@aol.com">purplemissus@aol.com</a> I will send you the rest of the files that I told you were on there. Apologies for the error.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now back to <a href="http://www.textilesinfocus.com/T_in_F_13/2013-show.htm">Textiles in Focus.</a> A really great show and very busy. Managed to catch up with lots of past students and friends.I was demonstrating and giving workshops as well as having some of my work in the <a href="http://www.fenedgetextiles.co.uk/">Fen Edge Textiles</a> exhibition. We were exhibiting and demonstrating in the Atrium which was a wonderful setting, very light and airy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are a very few shots of the exhibition. Don’t want to give too much away as it is moving on to other venues.</div>

The exhibition has been well received with lots of lovely comments in the visitors book.</div>

It was great to catch up with them. Julie bought me a small gift:</div>

<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-evgRazCKxrU/USOBFO9hveI/AAAAAAAAIu8/GRrOKpl8ZZA/s1600-h/gelli%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="gelli" border="0" height="260" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-k9yYd0HTrNE/USOBFhZeG3I/AAAAAAAAIvI/akdagDNuoZY/gelli_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="gelli" width="227" /></a> <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I’ve just got to try and find the time to use it!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A camera crew from <a href="http://www.justhands-on.tv/">Just Hands On TV</a> were filming at the show and asked if they could film me demonstrating. I had hoped for a fake tan and complete makeover first but they said there wasn’t enough time. :) I’ll let you know when the video is on the website – or maybe not if they haven’t cut me out.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There were also other demonstrations and exhibitions going on along with lots of traders. Two hour workshops take place on all three days plus a lecture on the Saturday afternoon with a well known textile celebrity. If you missed the show this year then make a note for February of next year. Check out the web page for <a href="http://www.textilesinfocus.com/T_in_F_13/2013-show.htm" target="_blank">Textiles in Focus</a> and for <a href="http://www.paulineverrinder.com/" target="_blank">Pauline Verrinder </a>who organises the show, and is the mentor of the </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.fenedgetextiles.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fen Edge Textiles group</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was my birthday recently and this arrived – unplanned – on the day.</div>
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-dUPcJgS6y0s/USOBGf8JYrI/AAAAAAAAIvQ/Woc8jqQg5Z8/s1600-h/VRC%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="VRC" border="0" height="256" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-VEbonEu21v0/USOBHFLDtfI/AAAAAAAAIvY/5TTEivS-wxM/VRC_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="VRC" width="260" /></a> <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was from <a href="http://vintagerockchick-gill.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/patterns.html">Vintage Rock Chick</a> Gill as a way of saying thank you for something I gave her. It’s made from vintage fabrics and I will treasure it. My needles are usually stored like this:</div>
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-xRwJ0pWqzGE/USOBHkU14PI/AAAAAAAAIvg/fj_X2v6lX2w/s1600-h/needles%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="needles" border="0" height="190" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-eE2c91MKHt0/USOBIDOHOOI/AAAAAAAAIvo/iaLfka7vimA/needles_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="needles" width="260" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And the amount of times I stab my finger when rummaging through for my ‘favourite’ needle is unbelievable. Not any more though!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Writing this, I realise how much I miss blogging. Will be back again soon.</div>

I have been 'hacked'!<br />
Have taken steps to make sure that, hopefully, it doesn't happen again.<br />
Mind you, it could have been worse - might have been a porn site/sight. :)<br />

I shall be ‘in residence’ at <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.artvango.co.uk" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a> tomorrow (Friday 27th) and will be working on the technique I used for these:</div>
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-kIdIlYb8iYE/UBFrn2iuahI/AAAAAAAAIsA/HMQ-3tdgYO0/s1600-h/NEC4_thumb2%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="NEC4_thumb2" border="0" height="480" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Xgdgauv0iRY/UBFroyyFdLI/AAAAAAAAIsI/4KDRFrP5Y0w/NEC4_thumb2_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="NEC4_thumb2" width="247" /></a><br />
<div align="justify">and hoping to take it further. Will be taking lots of other samples with me, some from ‘Fabulous Surfaces’ and even more to browse through. Hope you can make it.</div>
<div align="justify">I’m back there again next Tuesday and Wednesday for a two day workshop – ‘Fabulous Surfaces’ which is going to be repeated later on if you didn’t manage to book a place.</div>
<div align="justify">Just had a great weekend demonstrating at Art in Action in Oxford. Fabulous show and it didn’t rain at all while I was there! Had two different sculptors and an artist who uses texture in her work very interested in the textures that I create which was good. And also met with Jean who last time I was there badgered me into selling her two of my vessels which she is still very pleased with. Now she has made me promise to put her name on the ‘Shrine to Grandad Ben’ – the one with the keys – once I am finished with it.</div>
<div align="justify">Will be teaching a summer school at Missenden Abbey on 5th – 10th August. It was full but the numbers have been extended from 10 to 12 so there are now 2 places available if anyone is interested.</div>
<i>Should have had another look before publishing this post - only 1 place left now.</i>
<div align="justify">And, great excitement for me, I will be demonstrating at the Festival of Quilts on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th on the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.artvango.co.uk" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a> stand. Looking forward to it.</div>
<div align="justify">Also have a workshop on Saturday 25th August at <a href="http://craftarena.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200&products_id=979" target="_blank">Craft Arena at Barleylands</a> – ‘Scrim, Screens and Scrappy Bits’.</div>
<div align="justify">And that’s me done for August – apart from two other workshops for private groups and a shopping trip to Cambridge with daughter and granddaughter - have to show willing sometimes.</div>
<div align="justify">Apologies for a bit of a boring blog but just wanted to make sure you haven’t forgotten me. :)</div>Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-77236884183849914772012-06-20T12:03:00.002+01:002012-06-20T12:03:17.672+01:00Usual title–Catching Up!<div style="text-align: justify;">
What a useless blogger I am these days – over six weeks ago since I last posted!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So what takes all my time these days?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Workshops, talks, demonstrations, shows – really busy but loving every minute of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tomorrow, Thursday 21st, I am ‘In Residence’ at <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.artvango.co.uk" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do hope you can come along and have a chat and take a look at what I am up to with Spunbond, Dressmaking Tissue Paper and various acrylic mediums.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here’s a taster:</div>
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VsCXz_LkgU0/T-GseeWTemI/AAAAAAAAIpc/MoZFq_eUabk/s1600-h/tissue%252520paper%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="tissue paper" border="0" height="237" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Kyltw-vsaNA/T-GsfOcarrI/AAAAAAAAIpk/JSLwdgNNZIY/tissue%252520paper_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="tissue paper" width="240" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next week I am back in St Issey, Cornwall with a two day workshop this time plus a chance to see the Cornwall Show. Really looking forward to it. So pleased the weather has picked up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As everything is prepared and ready for St Issey I had a few spare minutes to play with this paper from <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.artvango.co.uk" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It’s a double sided wax paper, different colour on each side. Feels lovely and smooth.</div>
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-OhFzTFaonCU/T-Gsf6z5wtI/AAAAAAAAIps/4Z47mlNVrp8/s1600-h/waxed%252520paper%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="waxed paper" border="0" height="134" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-FUhNXG7Twq0/T-GsgVjTbPI/AAAAAAAAIp0/JXFYN6pYTDc/waxed%252520paper_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="waxed paper" width="240" /></a><br />
I tried crumpling it up:<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-qdJr2xH7Uio/T-Gsg-PLubI/AAAAAAAAIp8/-vc0rY9b2nM/s1600-h/crumpled%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="crumpled" border="0" height="119" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-asxrgs3zdVI/T-GshfxnSrI/AAAAAAAAIqE/iFO6yThVbH8/crumpled_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="crumpled" width="240" /></a><br />
Then ironing it flat again:<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4FB8KRkW2VA/T-GsiLJPRSI/AAAAAAAAIqM/GiVfI97gR-w/s1600-h/ironed%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="ironed" border="0" height="148" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-g8iOKiIAuRE/T-GsiuBgQ6I/AAAAAAAAIqU/WVupek7iFk0/ironed_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="ironed" width="240" /></a><br />
These are the reverse sides of the above – not very exciting:<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_ErYoB4tq_U/T-GsjTqjsLI/AAAAAAAAIqc/DFM76cHz8Zw/s1600-h/before%252520light%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="before light" border="0" height="240" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-qE-NQiJuHBc/T-Gsj4P4l3I/AAAAAAAAIqk/0N4KqTHGx88/before%252520light_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="before light" width="127" /></a><br />
but held up to the light, what a difference – given me a few ideas here!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-vST1fdoRHoY/T-Gsk4CxG6I/AAAAAAAAIqs/e5JpiLf5Geg/s1600-h/light%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="light" border="0" height="240" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-WR0DJJEsZYw/T-GsluZaoOI/AAAAAAAAIq0/zPnlPl7ZJcg/light_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="light" width="191" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I then tried crumpling and ironing again and while it was still hot I rubbed a metallic wax crayon over the surface:</div>
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-lX5FmdDbd78/T-GsnUsiCFI/AAAAAAAAIq8/Nao4Y3QBEJI/s1600-h/wax%252520rubbed%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="wax rubbed" border="0" height="197" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-6ssRe_bLfnw/T-Gsn3hMl8I/AAAAAAAAIrE/tsqznGvd0s8/wax%252520rubbed_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="wax rubbed" width="240" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And on these ones I melted the metallic wax crayon between two sheets of baking parchment then ironed the waxed paper between the same two sheets:</div>
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-H5QXkEAKf8c/T-Gso5XInCI/AAAAAAAAIrM/H19_8HZodJo/s1600-h/wax%252520melted%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="wax melted" border="0" height="105" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-zdag1ncL1p4/T-GspQpGlrI/AAAAAAAAIrU/qjQeGP05OBI/wax%252520melted_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="wax melted" width="240" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Had to try Treasure Gold, of course, with Autumn Gold Creative Spray on top. Ironed again once dry.</div>
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XnvKzfoxUWE/T-GsqpH_mDI/AAAAAAAAIrc/DIG7N_ZURgo/s1600-h/Treasure%252520Gold%252520Creative%252520Spray%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Treasure Gold Creative Spray" border="0" height="240" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-cAJf_BASB1k/T-GsrUVnf2I/AAAAAAAAIrk/em1IGDW3krI/Treasure%252520Gold%252520Creative%252520Spray_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Treasure Gold Creative Spray" width="222" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And finally rubbed over a metallic white acrylic paint before ironing again.</div>
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-X7hNTJkBQZ0/T-Gsst-lCmI/AAAAAAAAIrs/z1soat204bo/s1600-h/metallic%252520white%252520acrylic%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img alt="metallic white acrylic" border="0" height="210" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-rmCoWWqcH8s/T-GstcGOXyI/AAAAAAAAIr0/E-AWZjHFtiQ/metallic%252520white%252520acrylic_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="metallic white acrylic" width="240" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nothing ground breaking, still waxed paper, but ideal for adding stitch and lots of potential.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next time I get a few spare minutes, she say’s hopefully, I will carry on playing with this.</div>Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37462621.post-55021683112501548642012-05-07T16:58:00.000+01:002012-05-07T16:58:11.491+01:00Happy familiesThese ‘shrines’ shown in the last post are almost a metre tall by 15cms wide. <br />

I blogged about him way back <a href="http://purplemissus.blogspot.co.uk/search?updated-max=2008-01-04T21:08:00Z&max-results=20&start=5&by-date=false" target="_blank">here</a> when I made a tin foil box which he fitted inside of. He was made by <a href="http://www.sarahjanebrown.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sarah Jane Brown</a>. – in the wire knit collection. She also has a website for her driftwood collection <a href="http://www.sarahjanebrown.com/" target="_blank">here.</a> If you have the sound turned on you can hear all the little birds tweeting away. Bought as a gift by daughter no.2 when we moved to this house about seven years since. He just didn’t fit in when he was stainless steel. I much prefer him like this. I covered him with metallic effects rust paint and then sprayed with the rusting solution. Being impatient I couldn’t wait for the rust solution to dry properly so turned the heat gun, the paint stripper, on to him and he actually caught on fire at one point. No.2 not happy. She has a cat made the same way and larger than the dog – have got my eye on that now. No chance.</div>

DH not happy either. I was putting together another shrine and drilling small holes in the ‘shelves’. In the kitchen, using the chopping board to lean on. Should have been outside in the workshop really but it was so wet and cold at the time. Only using a small Dremel drill, not a heavy duty one. Drilled right through in to the chopping board. Does it matter I ask him, thinking he would moan. Not really he says, as long as you don’t go right through into the worktop. Oh dear! I had 32 holes to drill in total. Luckily I had only drilled the first 8. Black worktop, 8 nice little holes all in a row. </div>

When I first met my very good friend <a href="http://www.alteringthoughts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Pat</a> in person after getting to know her through blogging, she presented me with this lovely little gift. I’ve always loved little boxes and secret pockets and the like and this is a combination of the two. <br />
This is how it looks to start with:<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-62AIXjdldvE/T6fs2Me-lnI/AAAAAAAAIlc/9Liyafd4OQQ/s1600-h/PAT-14.jpg"><img alt="PAT 1" border="0" height="240" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-T8CcNDy0or0/T6fs29ChLVI/AAAAAAAAIlk/NoYL4VtlUt8/PAT-1_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="PAT 1" width="174" /></a>And this is how all the little pockets fold out.<br />

They were made by the Miao and Dong for storing embroidery threads and are know as ‘zhen xian bao’ which translates as ‘Needle Thread Pockets’. And I know all this because at the Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch show at the NEC I was lucky enough to be opposite the Slow Loris Textiles stand where Ruth Smith was demonstrating how to fold these which she calls ‘Folded Secrets’. Also on the stand were some of the original pockets made from fabric and they are truly amazing. Ruth has put all the instructions for creating these pockets and other folded projects in her four books – which of course I just had to buy.<br />

<br />
I also bought the second brilliant book by Maggie Smith – website <a href="http://www.stitch-print.co.uk/index.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-4Hyv0CWCJ2w/T6ftNeFWjGI/AAAAAAAAIoM/BOtnrT3oxU8/s1600-h/MAGGIESMITH4.jpg"><img alt="MAGGIESMITH" border="0" height="240" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-8lk_w6Z00nI/T6ftOfGBRiI/AAAAAAAAIoU/3izjwWD_x1c/MAGGIESMITH_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="MAGGIESMITH" width="178" /></a><br />
Maggie came over to say hello and have a chat and I realised later that her lovely daughter who was helping her at the show came on one of my Vilene workshops. Evidently she is a complete beginner with mixed-media - I just hope I didn’t put her off!<br />
<br />
I remembered my camera again at the workshop for the Sindano group last week. All I have to do now is try to take some far more interesting photos. Another lovely group of ladies and everyone worked really hard as usual.<br />

Had a great day at the Fen Edge Textiles meeting on Saturday. We were playing about dyeing in plastic bags. <a href="http://sharnesbitsnbobs.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sharne</a> has photographs on her blog. <a href="http://blog.nickieinstitches.com/" target="_blank">Nickie</a> looking straight at the camera and me trying to hide – nothing unusual there then. Sharne bought one finished part of her final piece for the next exhibition along and it is beautiful. Even the sketchbook that accompanies the work is fantastic. <br />
<br />
Tomorrow (Tuesday 8th) I am ‘In Residence’ at <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.artvango.co.uk" target="_blank">ArtVanGo</a> and next Saturday it is my turn to steward the <a href="http://www.fenedgetextiles.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fen Edge Textiles</a> exhibition at Wisbech. (Details of venue on F.E.T. website). <br />
<br />
Now here’s something you may not know.<br />
On the last blog I mentioned ladies of ill repute – ‘Winchester Geese’ – and I have been finding out more. To "be bitten by a Winchester goose" meant "to contract a venereal disease" and "goose bumps" was slang for the symptoms of venereal diseases. So in the future whenever you hear someone say they are covered in ‘goose bumps’ I can guarantee you will think of the 'Winchester Geese'.<br />
<br />
I’m on to Pilgrims and Shrines now. Even more amazing stories and facts.Purple Missushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076212454059734161noreply@blogger.com6
