I wish…

…I had thought of doing this.shirley1My good friend Shirley Sherris took a liking to the metal embellishments I have been using on some of the pieces in ‘Fabulous Surfaces’.
She managed to get herself some and rather than use them as they are – like I did – she made paper casts using toilet tissue paper of all things and then painted them – and then sent me some. :)
Aren’t they brilliant? And so much more in keeping with the theme of the book.
So I grabbed the folded pocket book:
shirley3Took the piece of metal off the front and then replaced it with this:
clock faceI over-painted  this piece with turquoise metallic paint and did the ‘white spirit technique’ on the top to match the 'fabric' of the folded book.
bookI think it looks so much better.
Shirley also sent me these pieces she made to have a play with.
shirley2I’m after some plasticine now. :)

Take a look at Shirleys blog. Full to the brim with ideas and interesting stuff and she’s very willing to share.

Talking of bloggers. I went to ArtVanGo last week to arrange some workshops (more about those next time) and stock up on supplies and I bumped into Gina and Gill who were busy organising the advertising for this exhibition.
Spectrum Poster smallThe exhibition will most certainly be well worth a look as I know some of the people in this group. I have my invite here for the private view ‘Tea Party’ with tea and cakes - Gina’s cakes! Pop over to Gina’s blog for more details.

I will be at Chelmsford Embroiderers Guild tomorrow evening (Monday 16th) demonstrating and showing some of the pieces from ‘Fabulous Surfaces’. Get in touch with Sharne for more details if you fancy coming along.

The free online classes are up and running at d4Daisy. You will need a copy of the book to gain the passwords to access the lessons. Hope you enjoy them.

And remember, any question, big or small about any of the techniques in the book or the online lessons please don’t be afraid to ask.

Plasticine cheapesr in Mothercare. I bought some of the metal pieces in Hobbycraft a few months ago. What a great way to use them. See you tomorrow.
