Help please!

I have now made 4 hangings for the ALQS4 swap would you believe. These are the two that I have just finished.

NUMBER 4

Yes, I know, I have come across this phrase from Spenser's The Faerie Queene, and now I will use it to death. :)

Close up:

4 CLOSE 1 And the final one (which is my absolute favourite. The finish has turned out really well – a near perfect ‘rusty’ effect) :

NUMBER 2 Close ups:2 CLOSE 1

2 CLOSE 2

2 CLOSE 3

And now this is where I need help. Which one to send? Can I ask you to vote for one? I will then put the one with the most votes in the ALQS4 swap.

Anyone leaving a number in the message box will have their name put in the ‘hat’ and if you would like one of the remaining three I will gladly send it to you.

Here then are the contenders. All on a Duck Cotton Canvas background, with batting & backing and machine stitched.  Sizes are approximate as the edges all need turning and backing!

NUMBER 1

NUMBER 1Dressmaking Pattern Tissue Paper, acrylic paints. Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Paynes Grey background. 60 x 60 cms.

See here for larger version and close ups.

NUMBER 2

NUMBER 2Pelmet Vilene lettering, Scrim. Transparent Red Iron Oxide and Paynes Grey background. 64 x 44 cms.

NUMBER 3

NUMBER 3 Foil, Fusible Webbing, Dressmaking Pattern Tissue Paper, Organza, rusted metal buttons. Transparent Red Iron Oxide background. 48 x 40 cms.

See here for larger version and close ups.

NUMBER 4

NUMBER 4Scrim, Xpandaprint. Iridescent Bronze acrylic. Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Paynes Grey background. 52 x 46 cms.

Remember, they all look better in the flesh! Especially number 4, just can’t seem to get a true photograph of that one.

Look what I got in the post today:

BOOK The latest d4Daisy book. And I can tell you it is fabulous. Really lovely photography. The back says it’s a book for the coffee table and the workroom – and that is so true. Its another ‘must have’. If you order it from d4Daisy you stand a chance of getting a package of goodies from Maggie Grey.

I’m off to Kent tomorrow to give a ‘rusty’ workshop to Pat and her fellow EG members. What, nervous? Me? *LOL*

Lynda, they are all wonderful. Why not send number 2 for the swap. And if you need a good home for number 3 or 4 I am willing to take it of your hands

I love number three also, but four is a close runner up :)

My favorite is #2, but they are all absolutely amazing, but there is something about #2 that keeps me going back to it. WOW, it doesn't get much better than any of these Lynda, you have outdone yourself.

Wow!! Wonderful textures. I love all.

Lins Artyblobs said...

I keep changing my mind, they are all gorgeous so just send them all to me instead! But if I must ...in order of preference 4, 2, 3, 1.

Sharne Gregory said...

What a choice, but I think my favourite one has to be number 4.

Maggi said...

I really love them all but number 4 would be my favourite. I do agree about the book, I got mine yesterday complete with goodie bag and have been drooling since.

My favourite is No 2 reminds me of plaque that has been on a building for a long long time so if you are looking for a home for it I will take it off your hands.

I like number 4, and 3... but I'm guessing in the 'real' they all have so much to look and look again at.

Sandy said...

I like the second one best-more color variation.

Stephanie Pettengell said...

It isn't easy, a choice between my favourites, two or four. I think it will have to be number 4 as there is so much more texture over the whole piece. All are wonderful pieces of art.

Penny said...

I think No 4 but my actual preference if you are looking for a good home is no1!!

My preference is for #4 - a nice balance of colours and rusty lettering. I also like #3, it is more subtle somehow.

Vicki W said...

I like #2.

Ruth said...

I think #2 and in second 4. Great job on all of them.

Magpie's Mumblings said...

Personally I couldn't bear to part with ANY of them, but I suppose I'd have to say #4 is my favourite. Lucky the person that ends up owning any of them!!

no 4 is my choice

Well I'll be the odd one out 'cos I like number 1--men in corsets.
Now seeing as I'm the only one who likes this one and it doesn't get sent to the LQS does that mean that I can have it?
Cheeky B aren't I

I love number four... love the colours and the words... it looks great as a whole. My second favourite would be number two!

I'm really in the minority here - my favorite is #1. Since no one else likes it as much as me, I guess you need to send it my way! vbg

Lynda, how could you be such a hard woman? Expecting to choose one of those fantastic creations?
I love the colour of No4, but any of them would find a loving home on my wall.

I love number 2 as I reckon the rusting detail is superb, especially in the closeups. Gorgeous.

Pat said...

Don't send number 2 because I want it!!!! No 4 is seriously gorgeous too. So lookinbg forward to today.

Wendy said...

I think you should send number 3, it is subtle but with so many interesting layers, I love the colours too - I could easily imagine this one as the cover pic on a magazine. Number 2 is amazing :)

Aussie Jo said...

Love the colouring in numbers 4 & 2; Love the understatedness of number 3; Love the subject of number 1; that helps a lot doesn't it!!!

Michelle said...

They are all gorgeous! Tough choice, indeed. I vote for #2. It was the one that made me want to really look more closely. I also like #4, and 3, and 1 ...

The WestCountryBuddha said...

Number two is my favourite, which is why - if it was me - I'd send another one and keep this one for myself!

diane.ca said...

Hard to choose you did a beautiful job on all of them. But since I have to make a choice #4 is the one.

Kim S said...

After seeing the quilts today close up,they are all fantastic. I'm going to suggest my second favourite go to ALQS4 and that is number 2. I love the Men in Corsets and find room for it at home. Thanks for a great workshop today.

Heather said...

They are all fantastic Lynda but my favourite is No.4 though 2 comes a very close second. Lucky ladies of Kent who are hearing your talk - they'll be enthralled.

artymess said...

I think it has to be number 2 its so rich and textural.....I am just drawn to it........my second favourite is number 4......Lorna

Julie said...

Oh dear, choosing is so difficult, especially when they are all so amazing. However, I really like number 3, if only I was joining in the swap this time!

Jackie said...

I think Number three but I'd rather you didn't send it just in case I win the giveaway.

Micki said...

FABULOUS!! Torn between 2 and 4. Send #2 and I would love to win #4.

Fibrenell said...

I'd have to go for 4 with 3 a very close second - love those greeny colours and the composition.
But any one of them would have a loving home here!

Number 2 has a very strong graphic quality, but it is perhaps too literal. Therefore, I pick number 3 as is is much more subtle.

number 3 definitely

Clare Wassermann said...

I really like number 3

Unknown said...

I love number 4!!!

liniecat said...

Stunning! I would have said number 4 or number 1, clever that with the corsets.

If all else fails put the numbers in a hat, shake it and pick one out!
You wont let yourself or anyone else down whichever one you send! But for me number 4 wins hands down.
Just stunning.

Thimble Fingers said...

It would be an honour to own any of them, they are all stunning. But I have to say No.2 is my favourite ... it is everything you've intended it to be, and looks amazing, really protrays what was once new and beautiful, to something that is old, decayed and forgotten, evoking memories of times gone by. AMAZING!

neki desu said...

nº3nº3!nº3!
they are all great but nº3(did i say that before)is less literal and more painterly, if you know what i mean.

Kim said...

If it isn't too late, I cast my vote for #4, though # 2 is a close second! Love them both. You can send them straight to my house!

Lise said...

So hard to choose a favourite, but I go for #1 and then #4. Your work is stunning!

Becky Mairi Farrell said...

Hello :) I've re-entered blogland just in time to join your vote! My favourite is 4 with 3 being a close runner up.

How do I get to come to one of your workshops? (after July though so I've recovered from my HND show). I would love to learn first hand how to create these effects and especially the rusty ones.

Papoosue said...

Hmmm, very difficult. My choice would number 2! these are all so lovely though.

Corryna said...

These are all lovely. I like nr. 3 and 4 the best. I wouldn't mind if you send the first two in, and the others to me ;-).

Michele said...

Good gosh, they are all fantastic, but my favorite is #4. I really don't think you should send that one to the swap tho, but save it just in case I win it :-) Just kidding--I would be thrilled to have any of them. I love the dimension, the colors, everything.

lcfzx said...

my vote goes to Number 2

Dahn said...

Lynda-- I LOVE them all (I have a lovely home if one of the pieces need one).
I would pick number 2 or 4. Two reminds me of a tombstone, 4 is a GreAt example of mixed media.

All of them are so stunning. My fave is #4.

Lynda - you can put two into ALQS4 if you like - you would then get two choices in return. Not required, but it is allowed :)

number two is seriously fab, Lynda...but they're all cool. Love them!

Just love number 4.
