Have been having a 'play' this weekend. Not really sure where I am going with these pieces but its been good working on them.
I started off with some cotton canvas which I painted with a base coat of thick white acrylic paint. When that was dry I used my two favourite colours, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold (try saying that with a mouthful!) and Quinacridone Burnt Orange.
While the paint was still tacky I covered it with pieces of dressmaking tissue paper and once dry, went over the top with Interference Gold.

Gold foil (from Fibre in-Form) was applied using Golden Regular Gel Medium and the clover mini iron.
I outlined some of the pattern lines using the machine and a black thread from Gutermann called Sulky.

Yesterday while searching for something else I found an unopened bottle of Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Ink called Vintage Photo.
This was diluted slightly with water and painted on. And this is as far as I have got with this one.

These two photos are close ups. Its amazing how the colours change sometimes when taking a close up.

And this, which I think is fabulous and would love to translate to fabric, is thanks to a tip from Susan (Art of Textiles). It is the top photo using a filter called 'Find Edges' in Photoshop.

This second piece is also cotton canvas but this time it is small pieces sewn together to make a larger piece, which is why there are lots of crinkles and creases in it.
I used Cobalt Teal, Phtalo Blue and Interference Blue on this one as well as the two colours that I used in the piece above.

Once again I painted over it with the Distress Ink.
And these are the close ups.

And that's as far as I got with this piece too.

I have also been working on some other foil projects this weekend along with Carol (Textile Tales) which we hope to make available as freebie tutes and kits on our website very soon.

Hi Lynda
It worked!! I conquered the technology! have got the RSS feed up and running so here I am first in queue.
Brilliant idea to use commercial patterns as a base.
The find edges on PS is a great filter, I would love to find a way of translating it and others into stitch/mixed media, but it's not easily translated.
I've had a go several times and usually find that it forms the jumping off point rather than the design itself.
The distress ink gives a wonderful antique feel.
I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, Adam is still a believer, so is Lucy although she is rather suspicious these days :-(

I am so intrigued by this foil and canvas stuff... Do you know if this is the same foil type stuff that you can also use their tacky glue to hold it onto hard surfaces? I love how you get so much color and texture with this stuff...
