There seems to be a lot of interest in the Flower Stitch Foot just lately and I knew I had seen one somewhere before!
So I dug out a box from the attic and there it was.
This says Spiral Stitcher on the instructions. It was made by Janome and is a slightly different shape to the one in the article by Val Campbell-Harding which is in the taster issue of WOW.
But if you look at the examples they give in the instructions it obviously does the same.
Maybe this version is older/younger than the one VCH used. This is possibly about 18 years old.

Dale Rollerson (Downunderdale) is doing some great work with this attachment at the moment and Maggie Grey is showing work made with it on her blog too.
There is an article here which shows you how to make circles without using this attachment, but obviously they are not very decorative.
This gadget looks like it has lots of possibilities - now you know what I will be doing this weekend!

And speaking of gadgets, does anyone know what this is?
Something else I found in the same box. It was in a little plastic bag with £6.95 on it - and thats it!
It has NEWEY stamped on the front and Clover Japan on the back.
There is an opening in each end. It is just over 2" long and just over 1" wide at the widest point.
Any ideas anyone?

Friday Freebie

Last week for freebies for a little while. These fabrics were purchased sometime ago when I was taking part in a Theatre Costume course. There is about 1/2 metre of each one. Along with a couple of unused bits for scrapbookers. Same as before, email or comment if you would like to go in the draw.

And if you win, I would just love to see what you do with these fabrics!

I have put some free downloadable .pdf files on my website:

http://www.purplemissus.com/

They are tutorials for some of the work I have been doing recently with the embellisher. I still haven't managed to upload the one for the torn strip spine, the file was too large. I hope to get that on there this weekend.

It takes a while for the files to load the first time you click on them - so please be patient, you know good things are worth waiting for :)

Hi Lynda - that's the model I am swapping a new one for - I am trying to work out what the extras are for but there are no instructions for the one I am getting. We had a lot of fun studying it. I reckon it is the original model.

Your little tool looks like a bias tape maker, doesn't it?
Off to your website now...
:-)

Francoise has it right, it is a bias tape maker. Mine also ended in a box, because I think there are more easier ways to bind something. I don't even know where I left it. I like the flower stitching foot though. I am very curious what you are gonna do with it?

I was also going to say it is a bias tape maker.

A bias-strip maker it is.

yep, a bias-srip maker would be my opinion too...
and I have been playing with the Flower Stitcher also...I also have a Circlular attachment that makes much larger circles...it fits into the bobbin case on my Janome 6600p...the circles start at 1" & go to 5" ... the flower stitcher fits onto the machine shaft (low shank) & makes circles up to 1" .... it is a lot of fun for sure...

A bias tape maker, and I use mine all the time. I have 5 or 6 different sizes. You pull the strip of fabric thru it and iron it right at the other end. Of course, the metal gets hot...*S*
That's why there is a little handle.
Put me in the draw for the older man...*L*

Hi Lynda
I had one of these circular embroidery thingies for an old Bernina, it was great fun buit doesn't fit the new model.
Wonderful fun fabrics, can I join in the draw too please.

the circular foot looks a little like a spirograph from my days of old.... The "unknown" is a bias tape maker -- the one piece unfolds as a handle to pull the "machine" along cut bias strips, which it folds. As it comes out of the machine you press it and voila, bias tape :-)

I'd love to be entered in your draw. Those fabrics look like they'd make yummy postcards!

Yep! It is a bias binder (tape) maker. Comes in various sizes. Have never used mine, but you never know when one is needed. Please enter me in the Friday Freebies if still applicable. Donna
