For Libby

It was decided (by her mum!) that Libby, age 5, would take something other than chocolates or toiletries as an end of year gift for her three teachers so I was asked if I would make each of them a Padfolio.
What happened to the good old days when you only had one teacher per class?

The first one is for the teacher described as an ‘earth mother’ so I used some of the fabric that I had rust dyed as I thought this might appeal – only hope I’m right!

Carol of ‘A Stitch in Time’ threw out a challenge to experiment with something from your studio that you haven’t as yet used. Crikey, what to choose was my problem. I have loads of stuff that I have bought as ‘must haves’ and yet they still remain unopened/untouched – and that doesn’t include fabric, beads and threads (and 3 DVD’s and 2 books would you believe?).
So I have decided to make this a regular challenge to myself and I will show the results on here.

My first challenge for this weekend is to use these….

The colours are Olive Vine, Sea Glass, Cherry Sorbet, Siam White, Sage and Icy Iris.

I haven't a clue how to get the best out of these, so any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

Watch this space to see how things develop.

Who would have thought rust would look so good. I'm the same I've bought things because they'll come in useful one day, won't they.

Looking forward to seeing how you use the H2Os - I've been wanting to buy them (because they look cool) but wasn't sure what to do with them! Love the padfolio - the teacher must like that better than another box of fat pills!

Love the rusted padfolio, I think that looks great. You know if you can figure out how to get the best out of those twinkling pots I'd love to know about it because I've never been able to do anything with them.

Love the padfolio Lynda--I've attached a link for you where people have talked about and shown what they have done with twinkling h20's

I've used the twinkling H2O's. It is difficult to see the effect on fabric...haven't tried paper yet. When I used it on fabric, I was using it in small spaces to get a twinkle.

Wow, your padfolio is gorgeous. I love the way you've used a darker thread to compliment the rust fabric.

The padfolio is really quite gorgeous. I have some of the H2O's and have not used them either. I do know that it is suggested for paper use that you use a bare minimum of water with them. I guess we need to check out Doreen's link.

That rust padfolio is fantastic!! I'll watch with interest with the H20's, as I have some and haven't used them yet either!!!

The rusty padfolio looks great! I have H2O's and have used them minimally. They basically are watercolor paints with sparkly bits in to give them shimmer. I look forward to seeing what you do with them.

I've never had any success with the H20s either. I've tried a lot of water, not much water, hot water, just about anything I could think of.
Seems like some people just love them, but so far I don't see why.
I've tried them on both paper and fabric too. So I'm gonna be watching to see what you come up with. And yes, your padfolio looks wonderful.

Fabulous padfolio! I love the H2Os but have only used them on paper, not fabric. They are really easy to use, very pretty and look lovely layered to get depth. I need more colours as I only have a set of ten or maybe 12. Love the idea of challenging yourself to use stuff - I might be a copycat and do the same as it is ridiculous how many things don't even get out of their packaging!!

Lovely padfolio. I'm sure she will like it.
Can't you eat these watercolour paints?.. They look so yummy!

Love your rust dyed padfolio, I'm sure it will be loved. I'll be interested to see what you do with the H2O's I've seen them in the shops and they look great but I didn't know what I'd ever use them for so so far have resisted.

Hi Lynda, At first I taught it was Pearl ex, but this is something else isn't it? Is it very fluid? I think I would mix it with a textile medium, a gesso or a gelmedium, but maybe you already tried that? The colours are nice, it is a pity not doing something with it. By the way,I almost forgot ....the padfolio is also great!!!

That padfolio is a wonderful way of using the rusty fabric. Much better idea to give the teachers a gift like this. Sometimes it would be gifts of soap from eveyone, then there were years when evryone gave me chocolates. I would have loved one of these!
That challenge from Carol is one I hope to take up when I have time. I don't have those paints though.
