Canvas, Scrim & Stitch

I came across this canvas I started some time ago and decided to finish it off this week.
I laid scrim over the canvas, covered it in gesso and when dry, I worked running stitches in a cotton thread. The finished canvas has more running stitch than is shown here.
I then painted over it using acrylic paints. The first layer (giving them all their full titles!) was Dioxazine Violet-Purple followed by a layer of Iridescent Copper Light (Coarse). I then applied a wash of the Violet-Purple over the top and rubbed over the raised areas with Copper Treasure Gold.

I decided to start on another canvas, but this time I used my old favourite French Knots.
The first layer of paint was a mixture of Dioxazine Violet-Purple, Phthalo Blue, Turquoise Blue Deep and Pale Gold with a wash of Interference Gold (Coarse) over the top.

I've already started on another one but this time I will stitch after painting to see what effect I can achieve.

Great minds think alike I'm in the middle of something similar but I'm finding it a bit hard going on my fingers pushing the needle through the canvas so can only do a bit at a time. Love the colours you've used.

I've just found your great blog! I was particularly
impressed with your use of scrim on canvas, it looks great. I'm just discovering the delights of working with scrim. I too am partial to purples and French knots so fell in love with the second one.
