Journal Making

I’ve had this book ‘Collage Unleashed’ by Mixed Media Artist Traci Bautista for some time and thanks to a link sent to me by my friend Carol (Textile Tales) I now have the video by Traci, ‘Retro Rags’. It came the other day and I have been glued to it!
It is amazing. Traci Bautista starts off by showing different techniques to prepare signature papers ready for doodling, journaling or whatever using kitchen towels, stamps and stencils. Then she takes you through making the journal covers and the retro rag-rug spine.
I was so inspired that I decided to have a go. And here is the first one I made and now that I know what I’m doing I am in the process of making another one.
The cover is made from the kitchen towels used to colour the signature papers. The central pattern is cut from the A3 size paper I was using as a table cover which already had old doodlings on from a previous project. Traci does make a point of saying that nothing is wasted!
The spine is strips of torn fabric and yarns.

Back cover is once again kitchen towel.

The signature papers are all different weights of paper.

The inside covers are made from some really old fabric I had lying around. I did some scribbling on the front piece but copied some of the designs in the book as I can’t seem to doodle to order.

I fixed the little label holder on the front cover but haven’t given the journal a title as yet.
These are just some close ups of the journal.

The book and the DVD are both well worth having, they complement each other. Details of the book can be found here at Amazon and the DVD can be purchased here at Creative Catalyst Productions.

Traci Bautista has a website here giving you details of her blog, workshops, publications etc. and lots of pictures of her artwork. A really good site. A very talented lady.

In response to a tag from Gunnel I have purely tagged you to say thank you for the pleasure your blog gives me, (this post is a good example)as I am sure this has happened to you many times before there is no need to respond.
