Birthday Postcard for Digital Gran

In my last post I said it was also Digital Grans birthday this month and this is the card I made for Mags, who is into fairies, paper dolls etc. This one seems to have turned into a proper card rather than a postcard. I couldn't get everything on to one side and even like this it is still a bit squashed but I am sure she will appreciate it.

The card itself is made from silk dupion and embroidered using a polyester thread. The dress is made from a piece of graduated dyed silk chiffon. It starts off as golden yellow and goes into red but you can't really see that properly in the photo. The bodice is beaded around the edges and the little coat hanger I picked up in a craft shop.
The fairy was printed with an inkjet printer onto silk dupion which had been 'painted' with a new product called InkAid.
You just paint it on, then you can print directly onto the fabric. It didn't take as long to dry as bubblejet and the fabric was sturdy enough to put directly into the printer without ironing on to heat paper first. It did alter the appearance of the silk slightly, made it translucent, not sure though if it would do the same on cotton fabric. You can also paint the InkAid onto paper. It stops the inks soaking into the paper and therefore you get a sharper print, ideal for collage work. I bought my bottle from ArtVanGo and paid £13.50 for a 473ml bottle.

Happy birthday Mags!

Ahh, Chelsey... don't mention birthday cards! Yet again Mum, I've managed to purchase one, even write in it but as usual forgotten to post it in time - still, means I can deliver it by hand (please, stop groaning! ;-) ) BTW, Mags card looks good ( but even better in the flesh!) - You realise we will all want handmade cards from now on!
